Folio from the Book of Genesis (R961), written in Greek with ink on papyrus and made in Egypt in the fourth century AD. The text follows the Septuagint, or Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible.
The manuscript currently comprises 50 consecutive folios of an original 66 and contains Genesis 10.1-44.22. Although the pages were originally numbered, only a few have been preserved.
The Chester Beatty houses two substantial papyrus codices of the Book of Genesis (BP IV and BP V), together covering the entire book with the exception of the first eight and last four chapters. Although neither appears to have been copied from the other, they were probably copied from the same predecessor. This manuscript, together with the ten other books collectively known as the Chester Beatty Biblical Papyri, was acquired by Chester Beatty in the early 1930s.
