28 unplaced fragments mostly from the Book of Genesis (R962), written in Greek with ink on papyrus; made in Egypt and dated to the third century AD. The text follows the Septuagint, or Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible.
The manuscript currently comprises 27 of an original 84 folios, and a number of smaller fragments; these contain the text of Genesis 24.13-25.21, 31.50-35.16 and 34.4-46.33. Pagination was added in the upper margin in a large cursive hand, other than the original scribe. The Chester Beatty houses two substantial papyrus codices of the Book of Genesis (BP IV and BP V), together covering the entire book with the exception of the first eight and last four chapters. Although neither appears to have been copied from the other, they were probably copied from the same predecessor. This manuscript, together with the ten other books collectively known as the Chester Beatty Biblical Papyri, was acquired by Chester Beatty in the early 1930s.
