Small parchment scroll (rotuli) containing an archival copy made for the Pachomian monastic library, probably at Phbow (Pbau), Egypt, of Theodore's Letter 2, on the annual remission of debts, written in Sahidic Coptic in the 6th century.
Theodore (c. 314-386) was an early successor of Pachomius, the founder of Christian communal monasticism, as head of the whole community, centred at Phbow (modern Faw Qibla). The letter, entitled 'This is the letter from our father Theodore for the Remission', is a call to the annual meeting at the end of the year. It is associated with a collection of material from the Pachomian monastic library (also known as the Dishna Papers or Bodmer Papyri), a portion of which was purchased by Beatty in 1956.
