Esther scroll (Megalit Ester) written in Hebrew on parchment (sheep skin) in an Italian square script with tagin (crowns), probably made in Italy in the 18th or 19th century, attached to a single wooden roller. The Book of Esther recounts the story of the salvation of the Jews in the Persian Empire through the actions of the eponymous heroine. The text is read in synagogues on the spring holiday of Purim (Festival of Lots).
