- Akbar inspecting construction for his new capital Fatehpur Sikri, folio from the History of Akbar (Akbarnama) by Abu’l-Fazl. Detached folio, ink, pigments and gold on paper, full-page tinted drawing (nim qalam), half of a double-page composition inscribed to Balchand, Agra, India, c. 1603-1605. This is one of fifty-eight folios now detached from its codex (Chester Beatty In 03). Extensively illustrated, these form volume two and part of volume three of the biography of the Mughal emperor Akbar (r. 1556-1605), composed by his court historian and minister Abu’l-Fazl `Allami.
