- Fragment of an early Qur'an manuscript. These Qur'an folios may be dated to the first century of Islam, in either the Arabian peninsula or Umayyad Syria. The Arabic script is a very distinctive style known as hijazi - meaning from Hijaz province, where Mecca and Medina are located. Codex, ink and colours on parchment, 32 folios, Arabic text in hijazi script, chevron illumination bands, portion of the Qur'an (suras 28:6 to 48:24), possibly Arabia or Syria, undated, c. 675-800
