Colour woodblock print, ‘Dialogue between Confucius and eight year old child’ (Hassai no ko to Kōshi no mondō) from the series ‘Tales of Uji Shūi’ (Uji Shūi monogatari) by Yashima Gakutei, printed in Japan around 1828. Shikishiban format, surimono print with poems signed Bunsō Kaoru and Bunbunsha (Bunbunsha Kanikomaru, leader of the Katsushika group). The title and poems printed here belong to another print in the series and were printed on this impression by mistake. The actual title of this design is ‘The child who freed the turtle’ (Kame o hanatsu ko).
