Woodblock print with hand-applied colour, Young man holding fan by Nishimura Shigenaga, printed in Japan, around 1745. Hosoban format, urushi-e print. This print is very similar to a print in the collections of MFA Boston, which carries in addition a publisher's mark (Igaya) and title cartouche ('In the style of a young man: Left sheet of a triptych'). The patterns of the youth's clothing are the same in both prints, but the black ink is differently applied. The relationship between these works is yet to be determined.
