Rustam kills the dragon, from the Book of Kings (Shahnama) by Firdausi.
The hero Rustam undertakes seven heroic trials (haft khan), while travelling to Mazandaran to rescue his king, Kay Kavus. Here, for his third feat, he charges his brave horse Rakhsh into a fire-breathing dragon, and kills it.
Folio, colours and gold on paper, single framed painting, probably cut down from a manuscript folio for re-mounting in an album (muraqqa`), Iran, c. 1450.
