Mezzotint portrait on paper of Isabella Bennet FitzRoy (1667-1723), Duchess of Grafton and (later) 2nd Countess of Arlington, engraved and published by Jan Verkolje (1650-1693) in Holland in 1683. It is a copy of a painting by William Wissing (1656-1687).
Isabella was the child-bride of Henry FitzRoy (1663-1690), 1st Duke of Grafton and illegitimate son of King Charles II of England and Barbara Villiers, Duchess of Cleveland. Isabella became Countess of Arlington in her own right when her father died in 1685. Henry died in 1690 and in 1698 she married Sir Thomas Hanmer. Isabella was one of the ‘Hampton Court Beauties’ painted by Sir Godfrey Kneller for Queen Mary II of England.
