Mezzotint portrait on paper of Queen Caroline Matilda of Denmark (1751-1775), engraved by James Watson (1710-1790) and published by Ryland & Bryer in London in 1766. It is a copy of a painting by Francis Cotes (1726-1770) produced earlier that year. The painting appears to have been produced on the occasion of Caroline Matilda’s marriage to King Christian VII of Denmark and Norway—she was 15, the king was 17. Ryland & Bryder published a second, reduced-size version of this portrait, also engraved by Watson.
